Do you have a power failure plan? Generator, battery backup? How do you keep the gas good in the generators?

I was leery of gas when we moved to Maine, but after the first power failure, I was praising it!

We do not have anything. We have a gas stove and propane Coleman lanterns.

I don't have one, but I know someone who has a diesel generator that can also run on a number of other fuels, and I know someone else who has a propane generator which is hooked up to the same tank that supplies the stove, hot water heater, furnace, etc.

Running them dry is a good idea. Like most things a little preplanning is a good thing. I have big batteries that will run most anything I need for several days. I check on them often and change them out when needed.

I just take mine out and run it periodically for 10-15 minutes. I also use stabilizer and make sure that I turn off the fuel supply and run it dry when I'm finished with it.

I have a 5KW we brought down from Maine stashed in the garage. The smart thing to do on the gas, is drain it, and run it totally dry. The gas that sits in there, turns to gum in the carb. Then you can get someone to put a kit in it $$ The next best thing is to add a stabilizer. Fresh gas when you need to use it will ensure a trouble-free experience. Mine holds ~7 gals.
