Gabon opens 42 offshore oil blocks to exploration

Reuters -- LIBREVILLE, March 12 - Gabon, Africa's seventh largest oil producer, is offering 42 additional offshore deepwater and ultra-deepwater oil blocks for exploration, the government said on Friday.

The West African nation, which currently produces roughly 250,000 barrels of crude oil per day and relies on energy for about half of its gross domestic product, is seeking bids from international firms by May 5, it said.

This great this making up for the internal consumption in the middle east and keeping the pressure on. More FPSO, Floating Processing and Storage Operations. Tullow OIl already has production in Gabon coming on line later this year as i recall.

We should be allowing offshore drilling as well as drilling in the Midewest were there is an abunance of oil just waiting to come out. We could be self seficient within a few years if the started now.

What ever happened to the "peak oil" argument with all these countries around the world (except the US and their 'not in my backyard' -- or my neighbor's backyard -- attitude) offering oilfields for drilling.
