Electric splitting of hydrogen is likely the way of the future, but it may be distant before it's economical in comparison to other fuels. I'm glad to see that Honda is still pursuing it, even if they admit it's not economic currently. Because of forethought like this, they'll probably lure buyers in. I know I'm most tempted by their technological advances compared to most makers.

I can see in the near future a Hydrogen powered Honda VTX1300 motorcycle. Also a Honda Lawn mower and I can also see a Hydrogen powered Honda Jet.

Isn't energy lost in the process of making Hydrogen? Wouldn't it be better just to use an electric car? There will be advances in both electric vehicles and hydrogen in the next few decades. but I still don't see a solution to the energy loss in making Hydrogen. I see advances in batteries in the near future, I read the articles on GasBuddy about battery advances. Oh, and don't forget Liquid Natural Gas as a fuel.

More alternatives but nothing feasible for the consumer.

Good thought OGW! That is what we really need. Our own generating units to cut out the middlemen, speculators and the "big oil-type boys" who prey on us when we need energy the most. We deserve better than what we have been getting from our representatives in congress.

Why not build the solar charging station into the car so you will always have your recharge with you.

Big oil will probably buy them out if it actually works. They don't want you doing your refueling at home even if it is hydrogen.

Where did you get the hydrogen in the first place? That stuff is so locked up in nature that you're better off sticking with fossil fuels.

Load the roof with solar panels and produce your own home grown hydrogen from Honda, good enough for 30 miles. Or drive to the hydrogen refueling station for 240 miles of driving. There will be a number of alternative fuels available and hydrogen is just one of them. Gasoline will be around for a long time.

Hard to believe you can generate that much energy. The avg home uses less energy than a car and if it takes tens of thousand to power a house, I would hate to see how much it'd cost to set up to produce enough energy to power 2 cars (avg household is 2 cars?).

I retire in two years, I sure love one of these Hydrogen Setup, free driving until the Road Tax man figure it out, I see black box with transponder reporting when pass freeway point and certain intersections, then the Road tax bill send monthly.

What a fantasy come true! Have relatively free cost of transportation. Fuel your own car in your own garage from your own solar powered Hydrogen generator! It seems it would put the middle eastern countries out of business, because it's the same sun shining down on me as it is on their oil soaked sands.

Way to go Honda. I would rather have a Honda than a UAW made auto. A friend of my wife bought a 2009 Chevy Pick Up truck and their bumper to bumper warranty is limited. He has transmission problems and then engine problems. He has paid out almost $2,000 in the last 30 days.

Well, about time! Plus, there's a lot of people already doing this! Some have been doing it for years. Don't wait on the automakers, don't wait on the politicians and don't wait on infrastructure to get it done.
