wind energy has a lot of flaws, I don't know why this administration pursues it so avidly.

After working a full day and then driving for another six straight hours, I decided that a rest stop and short nap was in order. Made the mistake when I stopped at a wind farm. Noise was so bad that sleep was impossible, had to drive another 30 min to another pull out to get some sleep.

Aggietim,
I see you are from Texas.
Get close to a windmill sometime.
I bet they make far less noise than an oil well pump.

Why don't they conduct a study on the economics of wind turbines. Then they will not want to build them.

The DemocRATS there have the "not in my backyard" (NIMBY) attitude towards them while they mandate them all over the country.
Wind farms are expensive eyesores, and now they are considered noisy by the liberals in the state of Massachusetts. Federal and state governments have spent billions of taxpayer dollars subsidizing their construction and use across the country. But high maintenance costs, high rates of failure, and fluctuating weather conditions that affect energy production render wind turbines expensive and inefficient, which is why more than 14,000 of them have since been abandoned.
Before government subsidies for the giant metals were cut or eliminated in many areas, wind farms were an energy boom business. But in the post-tax subsidy era, the costs of maintaining and operating wind turbines far outweighs the minimal power they generate in many areas, which has left a patchwork of wind turbine graveyards in many of the most popular wind farming areas of the US.
If you want to read a good story about alternative energy, you should read the Los Angeles Times article on Larry Eisenberg trying to take the LA Community College district off the power grid by spending between 1 to 1.9 BILLION dollars (depending on the cost estimate) on solar, wind and geothermal power for nine college campuses that only spent 8 MILLION dollars in 2010 for power.
The wind turbine they built on the college campus spins too slowly in average winds to power a 60-watt light bulb.

Hey I agree with BCHS76 I think I'll complain to the state here in Mass because of the noise from I95 sometimes at night its so loud you don't dare sleep with your windows open. Did I say sleep I stand corrected you can't sleep. I'm about 2 miles at most from them Wind Turbine but only 3/10 of a mile from the highway. Think I can get them to close the highway from say 10 PM to 7 AM the next morning at least to 10 wheeler and motorcycles? LoL

They are complaining about 10 dB? I wonder how loud the traffic is on the interstate outside my window?
Level at which sustained exposure may result in hearing loss: 90 - 95dB City Traffic (inside car): 85dB
Guess I'd better call my state environmental official and tell them to move the interstate!

Nascar and MG Sputnik,
I SAID;
"Please read the article "Cape Wind foe Koch chips in for Romney" - which was previously posted on GasBuddy." - Among other things it says;
"Boston Globe -- William I. Koch, the Osterville summer resident and fossil fuel magnate who helped bankroll the opposition to the Cape Wind energy project, has emerged as a key backer of Mitt Romney’s presidential campaign, donating $2 million to Restore Our Future, the super PAC supporting Romney’s drive for the White House."
============================= Does it need to be said louder?
The donations rank Koch’s privately held Oxbow Corp. third among companies that have donated the most to Restore Our Future, behind Perry Homes, the Texas home-building company, and Bain Capital, the Boston private equity firm that Romney cofounded in 1984."

The tree-huggers can fight the battle amongst themselves. There should also be an economic test included in determining whether or not any energy source is used. Presently gas/oil/diesel and coal are the far more economical choices.

This is one of our problems. We bend over when anybody has a complaint. Do you realize that is is only 2-3% of the people that will NEARLY ALWAYS FIND SOMETHING TO COMPLAIN ABOUT? Duh - Tough - they make noise when they walk or run too. That's an idea - why don't we regulate people walking or running or whistling. Yea - and tax them for it too. Let's not KEEP BEING STUPID!
