keeping the tailgate down on the truck i used to have may not have helped the mileage, but it sure helped stabilize it going down the freeway as there was a smooth airflow in the back.

Seems like we Americans are trying to scrimp & save; what about the other big nations across the world?

You've got that wrong GetMax. They proved that AC on at highway speeds actually saves you gas. Yes if you are in stop and go traffic you use more gas but not necessarily because of AC.

I don't believe much of what PM or Mythbusters says.
I let my ScanGauge tell me which gas saving tips are working, it doesn't lie and has no bias.

Mythbusters proved that AC does use more gas than having the windows down.

Well being from the real world, the one that I would dispute is tire pressure. Turn wrench for over 25 years and proper tire inflation is important. I have seen by adding 3psi to recommended tire inflation can increase your mile per gallon by as much as 2-3 mph. And no, I am not stating to inflate your tires over the recommend pressure which can be unsafe, just try a few psi over what the recommend tire pressure from the car manufacture.(Check the max pressure rating on the tire, do not exceed it) and you will see a little increase in mileage. Highway mileage, not in town driving.

I do buy in the morning because of less people at the pumps and the price does seem to rise by the time I get off work.

Good article - except that I lose a couple of mpg by running the a/c. I just look at it as a cost of living in the desert.

I can increase my MPG by 10-15% by driving 65 on the freeway and not using my a/c.

the two easiest ways to save on gas... other than not driving... is to inflate tires to their correct pressure, and then reduce the pressur e of out foot on the gas pedal... i have done thi and save 12+ % on my consumption!!!

Lol! One would think that most GasBuddies, by virtue of our interest in fuel economy, already know and understand that these 'tips' don't work.

Use common sense. Fuel stored underground is always about 60 degrees F give or take a couple of degrees. Think about all the gimics people waste money on to save gas.

Hate to say it but they are dead wrong on the A/C one. I consistently get around 10 MPG more by turning off the A/C. Depends on your vehicle of course, but at least for me, that is a huge difference.
