Already? Two Recalls Of New Escape Leave Ford With Egg On Face

Forbes -- Ford may have laid an egg with the launch of its new 2013 Escape — or at least a ping-pong ball. A day after the company blithely informed consumers that its new measurement method for interior space revealed that it could fit nearly 57,000 ping-pong balls inside, Ford came up with the much more serious announcement of its second safety recall on the crucial upgraded model in as many weeks.

Ford said it will recall 11,500 of the newly redesigned, just-introduced model to replace a fuel line that could split, leak gasoline and set the vehicle on fire. It affects only models with the four-cylinder, 1.6-liter engine that were built through July 11.

Didn't they had problems with F-150 cruise control modules overheating in the engine bay (which is a fire hazard) a few years back? As I recall, some vehicles would catch on fire even while the engine was shut off! That ain't no way to boost consumers' confidence in your products!

Is Forbes happy of this news?

The only company that did not take bailout money. And the vultures are circling.

For crying out loud, what have we become?

I wish nothing but good for Ford and I hope they can over come this one without selling their souls to the government.

Funny how when there's a Toyota or a Honda recall it gets a thousand comments on here, but now there's a Ford recall and it gets no attention whatsoever.

With America buying into things like Hope and Change, Man made global warming, 57,000 ping-pong balls...no wonder it can't see the engine being set on fire and is oblivious to the brake failure resulting in the impending train wreck.

Perhaps Ford thought the ping pong announcement would let the flaming fords announcement 'escape' notice.

Sorry, bad pun, I could not help it.

Ford's piddly recall can't compare to the latest GM recall on 6/22/2012!

That recall covers 413,418 Cruzes sold in the United States during the 2011 and 2012 model years and another 60,000 sold in Canada. All the affected cars were built at GM’s plant in Lordstown, Ohio, from the start of production in 2010 through this past May.

GM says it had received 30 reports of engine fires, the recall involves modifying the engine shield under the vehicle. GM says the modification will prevent any liquids, such as motor oil, from being trapped in the engine compartment.

And Ooops, they did it again.....GM has also issued a second recall, for 53,000 Cruzes, to check for possible missing welds on gas tanks.

Ford has to do the recalls to keep the "ball" rolling on its 2013 Escape launch. Only time will tell whether Ford has done the right thing to not lose market share for its 2013 Escape.

Being pro-active and recalling vehicles without delay can only work to Ford's ultimate advantage.

Rule #1...Never ever buy a 1st year vehicle!

Folks IF you are looking forward to getting a FORD ESCAPE I WOULD STRONGLY RECOMMEND GETTING a 2012 & NOT the 2013!

Seems less than others these days, but seems to be serious QA issues if identified (twice) just after release.

It's a new version and new stuff is expected to have bugs. GM & Chrysler wait till the death toll reaches a certain number before they do recalls
