Court reinstates markup law for Wisconsin gasoline

YAhoo/Associated Press -- A federal appeals court on Friday reinstated Wisconsin's 71-year-old minimum markup law on gasoline, a decision that could save some jobs but increase the cost of gas.
Siding with an association representing small gas station owners, the 7th Circuit Court of Appeals ruled the law that requires retailers to sell gas above cost does not encourage illegal price-fixing.
The court lifted an order imposed last year that put enforcement of the law on hold after U.S. District Judge Rudolph Randa concluded it violated federal antitrust law and increased the price at the pump by up to 30 cents a gallon.

Personally I'm voting against all judges this November. We need a purge like we need a purge in Congress.

This means that the consumer will pay an additional 6 cents per dollar of wholesale cost just to protect mom & pop and independent convience store operators. How this law benefits the average working man is beyond me. I can see how it protects the inefficient and small scale gasoline retailer.

If we are ever go to Wisconsin, I do hope we remember to fill up just before we cross in Wisconsin and not have to fill up before we exit the state. This also means that if we vacation in the area we will want to spend our nights in a nearby state while only making day trips in & out of Wisconsin to sight see. In the long run, I do not see how the citizens of Wisconsin come out ahead with this law.

The cost plus a small mark up should be the most

"The ruling is a victory for the Wisconsin Petroleum Marketers & Convenience Store Association, which argued its members would be driven out of business from larger competitors without the law."
