Roundtable, tour will showcase CNG, alternative fuel vehicles

JS -- As the number of stations expand and more fleets consider making the switch to natural gas vehicles, and a series of events next week aim to educate the public about alternative fuel vehicles.

In the Milwaukee area, the price of regular unleaded gasoline has fallen by nearly 50 cents, to $3.47 a gallon, in the past month. But it remains double the price of CNG at local pumps, said Lorrie Lisek, head of Wisconsin Clean Cities-Southeast Area.

“The gas prices are volatile and they have come down but they will come back up,” said Lisek, whose group educates fleet owners about a variety of alternative fuel choices and idle-reduction technologies. “As Americans we need to focus on things we can do to lessen our dependence on petroleum, and improve our nations’ energy security.”

South Africa can convert their natural gas to liquid fuel more cheaply than they can bring in gasoline or Diesel fuel from elsewhere.

Any engine can be converted or manufactured in large volume now. Just do it and people will build the station to refuel. It is about money to them and It will be done.

However, be aware your MPG will decrease, since like with ethanol, there is less BTUs per Gallon. Plus we are in the current problem, because all out transportation is based on one fuel (oil). Just imagine all the problems we will have if our home heating and transportation are based on one fuel. We could be stuck at home (no fuel), in a cold house (no fuel). if there was a sudden shortage of Natural gas. We should diversify our fuel needs, or goto electricity, which is produced by dozens of sources. Wind, Solar, Coal, Nuke, hydro, natural gas, oil, ... hamster on a treadmill.

It makes more sense than using cng, coal or nuclear to create electricity to charge up electric cars. I find it hard to believe that "renewable energy" will ever be able to supply 100% of our needs, unless Obama succeeds in pushing us back into third world economy status.

Just wait until we have a severe winter and they will go sky high. As far and "energy independence" goes - we have more than we need right now (that's why the price is low) but as soon as we start using natural gas to power many of or autos and we have a cold winter, we will be importing natural gas also.

As more and more vehicles are built to use natural gas OR converted over to natural gas, more natural gas will be used and the price of natural gas will go up. Don't expect natural gas to stay low for very long, the trend for all fuel prices is always up and up more! It does Not matter if you have to heat your house with it either, higher natural gas prices coming. Recently, an article on here said that less natural gas will be produced because there is NO profit to keep drilling and producing more natural gas. Less Supply, Higher NatGas prices coming! Big Oil and Big Gas exports fuel and natural gas to other countries that will pay more for it, much more than here. There will be NO price reduction or cheaper prices for fuel OR natural gas IN the US, so it does NOT matter how much crude oil or natural gas is produced. 'Coming out of the closet' Fred's lousy, smoke and mirrors, lack of jobs, dog and pony show and in the crapper economy, the 'jobs' are Not here. Fred's economy is not improving but continues to hurt the population and the job numbers continue to be down – no matter how smoooooth talking Fred spins those numbers! People will still drive and buy fuel no matter what but it sure helps to have a job too! Whatever the size or shape of the vehicle, Produce and ‘Drive’ vehicles with high MPG, are very safe, reliable, have a ‘reasonable’ cost and a good ‘value’ for the money. The price of fuel at the pump is too high! XII/XXII/MMXII!
