Safe Carroll: Experts recommend using car seats on airplanes

Carroll County Times -- Infants and toddlers on airplanes are safest in a car seat with a harness, due to the risk of turbulence. A child who rides in a car seat on the ground should ride in the same car seat on a plane. Air turbulence can be dangerous and can appear suddenly without warning.

Not all car seats can fit on standard airplane seats, which are typically about 16 inches wide, but Safe Kids Carroll County and the Federal Aviation Administration strongly recommend using a car seat if it fits. As in cars, babies under two years old are best restrained in a rear-facing car seat, and a forward-facing car seat can protect toddlers up to 40 pounds or more. Make sure your child’s car seat is labeled “certified for use in motor vehicles and aircraft.”

What happens if you get on the plane and your car seat does not fit the aircraft seat? How fast can the carseat be removed in an emergency so it does not block other people in the row?

Not all passengers can fit on standard airplane seats either, but they try anyway, so why should it be a problem letting the little ones be a bit safer?

Add to his growing list of government oppression ie...max size of coke 16 oz., gun control via recommending the cops go on strike and trying to make you say you are not in favor of tradition marriage like Mr. Chick-fil-A. I say coke is fine up two and including a 55 gallon drum, the 2nd amendment is in the constitution so leave it alone and traditional marriage is great and can be supported with speech as per the 1st amendment. Bloomberg needs to be mayor of San Francisco or Key West to promote his craziness.
